During our visit to Falmouth on Sunday we were lucky enougth to arrive in the middle of Falmouths International Sea Shanty Festival, which was being held outside the Maritine Museum and other locations throughout Falmouth.
Sea Shanty Festival outside the Maritine Museum
The sound of various sea shantys being performed by many different groups of performers could be heared wherever you went in central Falmouth.
Groups of performers where not only singing on the main stage but on many of the streets in falmouth and in many of the pubs and hotels near the waterside.
Most of the performers were either dressed in period sailors regalia or as the typical image of Cornish smugglers and pirates.
One of the many performing groups on the streets.
Groups of traditional dancers and many solo or duos entertained the visitors to falmouth during the weekend
This drummer and slide guitarist were particularly good and rightly deserved the attention they got.
Falmouth is the perfect place to hold this type of event and the whole town rang to the sounds of sea shantys which perfectly blended in to the historic port of Falmouth.
Here is a short sample of the performances this weekend many more can be found posted on youtube.
All in all a really pleasent visit to Falmouth.
